Finding our roots – Wendy’s ancestry

So, we’ve established, from Wendy’s father’s birth certificate, that her father was born in Hull, but this doesn’t mean he was brought up at that location. It’s quite possible he was born at

• a nursing home,
• a hospital
• at home
• other

Please note: we will not use parents and ancestral names to protect such person privacy.

Birth Certificate

• DOB 20th July 2022
• Named – WendyDad
• Born at 424, 3 Holly Grove, Haddon Street, Kingston upon Hull.
• Father’s Residential address is also the same as the birth address
• Therefore we can assume that WendyDad was born at home
• Father Name – Grandfather H
• Mother’s maiden name – Edith Grandmother W

Well, that’s a good start!

Birth Place & Church of Baptism

So our next step is to find the residential property and the church where Edward was Baptised. The baptism information might shed light on additional family members.

To do’s:

• Use Google Maps and Google Earth to find the birth house.
• Also, Use Google Maps and Google Earth to find churches in the surrounding area.
• Visit the churches to find out if are records of Baptism from 22 July 1922 to 1933. Our understanding is the family emigrated to South Africa when WendyDad was 11 years of age

Results of Search

• According to Google Maps, it will take 3 hrs 47min to travel by car from Maidenhead to Hull.
• Next task is to check travel time and costs by rail. The advantage is, I can work on my Blog & Webpages without worrying about traffic. Mmmh… good idea!
• Upon searching, we found a short street named ‘Haddon’ but no ‘Holly Grove building on Haddon Street’ !
• Google Earth’s photograph has no buildings at address (red pin). This is old photo because the next photo taken by Google Maps shows new buildings on the land.
• So, in the final analysis “the original buildings, no longer exist!”
• Our next task is to find old photos and maps of the area.
